Her eyes are closed, yet she continues to see the rugged snow-covered peaks of Glacier National Park that formed the backdrop for her highly anticipated painting workshop. She slowly opens her eyes and watches the breaking waves flood up the beach and wash gently over her feet. The cool salt water massage feels so good and offers her a complementary hour at the spa provided by nature. She looks down at her feet and sees the jagged raised pink lines running in parallel on her shin. Her tranquil thoughts at the spa are replaced by a vivid memory of pain rushing back into her head. Her breathing accelerates to keep up with her increasing heart rate as the paralyzing panic starts to rebuild in her mind. Her mind starts to ease as she focuses on the beams of bright sunlight shining between the fluffy clouds, penetrating deeply into the blue water, and the reflections of the white clouds. The yellow in the sunlight, and the blue sky, are mixing in the waves to a striking turquoise green color, shining brilliantly through the crests of the breakers. The color of the shells, stones and pebbles beneath the surface beyond her feet, reflect a rich palette of colors from reds and greens, to pure white. She picks up a handful, but as they dry off, the colors are not nearly as brilliant. She reflects on how it is the water that makes them so beautiful. The beautiful colors remind her, like it happened just yesterday, of one of the most vividly colorful, and at the same time most startling, dreams that she has ever experienced.......
Synopsis
A group of watercolor painters meet for the first time at a five day workshop in Glacier National Park, Montana. As the workshop progresses they get to know each other and learn some important concepts in this unique art medium. They don’t realize that their individual issues related to mastering these concepts, mimic their unique personalities and the interactions they have with the other painters. It’s not until the second day of the workshop, when they go on a hike into GNP that they see for themselves the real meaning of these concepts. The hike is intended to provide painting inspiration by bringing the painters up a mountainous trail alongside a beautiful rushing creek ending at a mirror-top mountain lake surrounded on three sides by snow covered mountains with tiny ribbon falls dropping hundreds of feet from the very glaciers that feed them. They experience the sheer magnificence and wildness of this place. In their exuberance, they feel a spiritual connection with nature. And then they begin to realize that they are in a place where they are visitors in a wilderness home, a realization that changes their feelings of exuberance to feelings of being tiny and frail, and out of place, at the mercy of the wild inhabitants. As they return down the trail, personalities continue to show themselves and they proceed off the trail in search of that perfect picture that will lead to that perfect painting. This careless decision proves to be a serious mistake. They come face to face with one of the wildernesses’ largest and most irritable inhabitants. This is an encounter that will change their lives as well as their paintings forever.
... Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams...
